Important Information for VA Benefited Students
Certification Procedures
- All enrolled and eligible students will be automatically certified for the fall and spring semesters of each academic year. If for any reason you do not wish to be certified for a specific semester, you must contact the NDSU VA Representative.
Students taking classes that do NOT wish to use their VA benefits during that term MUST complete benefit waiver form prior to the term. By completing the benefit waiver form, you will not receive any VA benefits for that specific term.
- Certification of enrolled students begins in late July for the next academic year. It is beneficial to have secured your eligibility and to have enrolled for classes by this time to avoid a delay in benefits.
Changes in Enrollment
- To prevent errors in received benefits, NDSU students should notify the NDSU VA Representative if they add or drop classes. Each student's enrollment will be verified by the NDSU VA Representative at least once each month, but prompt reporting from students regarding their enrollment will assist in the proper disbursement of benefits from VA.
- VA, not NDSU, determines the enrollment status of a student (full time, three-quarters, half, part time, etc.) and pays accordingly.
Major Changes
- Students who change their major and draw from Chapters 30, 35, 1606, or 1607 must complete a "Change of Program/Place of Training" (22-1995 or 22-5495) with the NDSU VA Representative.
Chapter Changes
- Students changing from Chapter 1606 to 1607 or 30 to 31 must apply to become eligible for the change in chapter. This change is not automatic upon returning from being activated or being injured. See the application process for Chapter 1607 and 31 to apply for a chapter change.
- Students receiving a change to Chapter 1607 will need to bring a copy of their new Certificate of Eligibility to the NDSU VA Representative for the change to be made in their NDSU student record.
- Students received a change to Chapter 31 will have the appropriate information forwarded to the NDSU VA Representative on their behalf.
