Returning After an Academic Suspension

Students who return after an academic suspension need to submit an Undergraduate Reactivation/Petition for Readmission form by the deadline indicated below for review by the readmission committee. This form should be submitted by the deadline for the semester in which a student is eligible to seek reinstatement.

  • Spring semester readmission - November 20
  • Fall semester readmission - July 20
  • Summer semester readmission is not supported.
    • Students returning from an academic suspension are strongly discouraged from taking summer classes due to the expedited timeline of the summer session. Students are more successful returning in either fall or spring semester.

Students applying for readmission will need to provide an explanation of change using the prompts on page 2 of the form. This explanation for change should be attached to the online form. The review process can take approximately 30 business days. Students will receive an email once processing is complete.

  • Transcripts
    • If students have enrolled in courses at another institution since leaving NDSU, have official transcripts from each institution sent to the Office of Registration and Records. Returning students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all NDSU and transfer coursework to be readmitted. (If a student has been out of attendance for 5 or more years, all former transcripts need to be resent to NDSU.)

Students who are readmitted will receive an email detailing next steps, such as:
